Sarah has been teaching the flute, music theory and aural (as well as beginner piano and recorder) throughout the Greater Manchester area and further afield for nearly fifteen years. She has worked for local music services, in schools, privately and for specialist music schools and courses (RNCM Junior School, Yorkshire Young Musicians, Flute Kitchen Summer Course).
She has experience of working with a wide variety of people: children and adults, complete beginners and advanced students (LRSM level), special needs and mainstream pupils, individuals and groups. Sarah has an up-to-date DBS check, and regularly attends professional development training.
Lessons can be simply for fun and learning a new skill, or can be focussed on reaching a specific goal. Many of Sarah’s pupils enter ABRSM exams, local and national competitions and play in local ensembles. She also organises a concert each year for her pupils to perform as soloists or in small ensembles. Sarah is always keen to hear from people who wish to start learning or continue lessons. She also has a number of flutes available for pupils to hire on a termly basis. Please contact me to discuss your requirements and practicalities! Lessons are available both online (using Zoom) and face-to-face.
"Sarah prepared me thoroughly for my Grade 6 Music theory, Grade 8 flute and then my DipABRSM exams, and is now preparing me for the LRSM in flute performance. She is a very professional and inspiring teacher. She recognised my strengths, helped me to explore new styles and genres and it has been an absolute pleasure to learn from her."
"My son has been studying with Sarah since his final year in primary school and is now about to go into the sixth form. He has worked well with her and this year passed his Grade 7 ABRSM with distinction. For me, Sarah's strength as a teacher lies in her insight into how to motivate each student."
"Lessons are fun, Sarah is really easy to get on with, I’ve been playing the flute for 4 years now and she always finds a way to help me understand complicated rhythms."
