Striking Chords - A level and GCSE Composition Workshops
Together with composer and pianist Paul-Isaac Franks, Striking Chords have begun to establish a reputation for themselves as a talented and enthusiastic workshop leaders. Working alongside classroom teachers, the musicians give specialist help and encouragement to enable pupils to compose music specifically for Sarah and Paul-Isaac (flute and piano).
Students are able to see first-hand the way in which music is created for specific instrumentalists. They are given a chance to experiment with live sounds, and have an opportunity to hear their work played at every stage of the compositional process. These projects usually culminate in a concert in which the budding composers can hear their completed work premièred! This also leads to a recording which can be submitted alongside a score to the exam boards.
Sarah and Paul-Isaac are always interested in becoming involved in compositional projects with young people from all backgrounds. The workshops are tailored into the school syllabus. They are usually conducted as a series of cumulative sessions.
