The Northern Flute Quartet was formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2003 whilst its founding members were studying for their postgraduate diplomas in performance. At the RNCM the group received a high degree of training and tuition from some of Britain’s most eminent teachers and chamber musicians including Peter Lloyd, Anders Ljungberg-Chapelon, Melinda Maxwell and Richard Davis.
Since then the group has gone from strength to strength both as performers and educators, promoting the flute and flute quartet repertoire. The quartet perform regularly to audiences around the North West with repertoire ranging from newly written and commissioned works, the group’s own arrangements, and to standard chamber repertoire combining subtle musicianship with technical excellence. The Northern Flute Quartet played at the British Flute Convention in August 2006 and 2008 and play annually at Chorlton Arts Festival. The group also give workshops and have worked with music services in projects ranging from hour long demonstrations to full length ‘flute days.’
