Workshops and
Bringing music to a wider audience, and introducing the flute and its repertoire to the younger generation and new audiences is very important. Sarah has worked in both mainstream schools and special schools, and belives that music can have a very positive impact on people's lives.
She uses a combination of interactive recitals in which the audience is encouraged to take part in various ways, and more informal workshops which involve a combination of music, drama and movement.
Big Arts Week
As part of Big Arts Week 2005, the Da Capo Duo went into Chorlton Park Primary School and performed interactive recitals for children of all ages. The recitals were received with incredible enthusiasm.
Moor Allerton Preparatory School
The Da Capo Duo gave an interactive recital in this Didsbury-based Primary School. Following the recital, the feedback was so positive that 14 children are now learning the instruments!
Special Schools and the Royal School for the Deaf, Manchester
Live music is very important in Special Schools, as it can have a really positive impact on the lives of the children and may enable the children to respond to stimuli in new ways. A mixture of interactive recitals and more informal one-to-one workshops has been very effective. This was clearly demonstrated on the Regional Early Excellence Programme 2005, which worked with pre-school deaf children, using music and creative play to help children develop their response to stimuli.
